Parks, Trails, and Open Space: Prioritizing Quality of Life

South Jordan residents love parks, trails, and open spaces and so do I.  I’ve worked hard to ensure the city keeps up with the growing demand.

District 5 leads the city in trail usage. According to a city survey, 63% of District 5 residents use trails a few times each month—far surpassing the average (36.25%) in the remaining areas of the city. While I’m proud of our high trail usage, I’ve also been vocal about the need to improve trail connectivity both within District 5 and across the city, to ensure all residents have access to the trail system.

Since taking office, I advocated for the creation of the Bingham Creek Regional Park Authority Board, ensuring South Jordan has a voice in the park’s future development and ongoing maintenance. I’ve supported the creation of 18 new pickleball courts, the Heritage Park Splash Pad, and the installation of the bike park at High Pointe Park. I also encouraged the development of Highland Park and have supported the city’s programming of the park as the center of the city continues to shift westwardly.

Additionally, I helped lay the groundwork for the Shields Lane Corridor Project that will add grade separated bike lanes to Shields Lane by being forward thinking and ensuring grade separated bike lanes were part of the city’s General Plan when we updated it in 2019/2020.

As South Jordan continues to grow, especially on the west side, I’ve strongly advocated for all new master-planned communities to include dedicated parks, trails, and open spaces with built-in connectivity to existing infrastructure. With the states increasing legislation concerning housing density, it’s critical we preserve and expand open space.

“Parks, trails, and open space” is not just a tagline for me — I recognize the critical role parks, trails, and open space play in supporting mental and physical well-being. I remain committed to making sure parks, trails, and open space remain front and center as we shape the future of South Jordan.
