While out campaigning the other night, the following comment was made to me: “we can’t vote for you because you live in Daybreak!” As I have thought about this comment, it has me concerned for the future of South Jordan.
First, I want to clarify: I live in South Jordan and then I live in the Daybreak Community. Just as some of you reading this may say you live in South Jordan in Ivory Crossings, or Triple Crown, or Jones Farm, or High Pointe, or the Dunes area, or Thaxton Acres.
Like you, I live in South Jordan and the community we live in does not dictate our stance on city issues.
The comment that was made to me is an attitude that has been perpetuated by my opponent and some of her supporters that like to divide South Jordan between “us and them” or “new versus old” or “traditional South Jordan versus Daybreak”. South Jordan does not need a leader who divides the city.
I will be a leader that recognizes that South Jordan is one city with many distinct and wonderful neighborhoods that make South Jordan a great place to live.
I will represent all areas of our district and I will work with residents to ensure that we build community in our city by preserving established neighborhoods, and by finding ways for growth to strengthen and enhance our city.
We must have leaders who can recognize new opportunities to bring the greater community of South Jordan together.
Together we can build a stronger South Jordan that is recognized for preserving its historical agricultural roots, its equestrian land, and its open space and recreational amenities. By working together we can create a united South Jordan where residents and communities are respected and valued.
Please vote Jason McGuire for South Jordan City Council, District 5 in November’s General Election. Mail-in ballots will arrive the week of October 16th.
